A Small Question of Terror

Description

A young woman, her loyal boyfriend, and her mother start to hope for a better life after escaping harsh government control, but they still feel scared and worried as they carefully look for somewhere safe to hide from the authorities who want to catch them.

Thoroughly frightened by stories of the tortures other people have undergone at the hands of the Director, Alexis Meade, a young and attractive woman, engaged to be married, can think of nothing that she, as a good citizen, should tell him. Later, she recalls that her mother had said once, as a joke, "Someday our Protector will protect us to death." Treasonous words, and Alexis' fiancé, while being tortured, admits that Alexis said that her mother did say them. But Alexis vows never to confirm this, no matter what happens to her.

Freed only tentatively from the grip of totalitarian rule, a young woman, her devoted fiancé, and her mother begin to dream again, but their fears and anxieties linger as they cautiously search for a place to hide from the enforcers of the regime.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
