A Tale of Two Worlds

Description

Radio performer Eddie Smith struggles with who he really is versus playing his character Timmy Brice. Things get worse when his boss wants to kill off Timmy to boost the show's popularity. Eddie becomes more and more scared that he's losing himself as chaos builds around him. A stage light falls and knocks Eddie out cold. When he wakes up from his coma, Timmy has returned.

Eddie Smith, who has played Timmy Brice in the soap opera For All Seasons, for 13 years (since he was 7), is shocked to learn that he’s going to be “killed” on the program. Because his mother ran away with another man and his father committed suicide, Eddie’s only life has been the one he has led in his role on For All Seasons. He becomes so distraught that he threatens violence—either to the show’s producer or to himself.

Eddie Smith, a radio actor, is torn between his identity and his role as Timmy Brice. The tension mounts when his producer decides to kill Timmy off for ratings. The frantic atmosphere around him is intensified by his growing dread of losing his identity. Finally, a floodlight crashes down, and Eddie is shown to be in a coma. When he awakens, Timmy is back.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
