Bottom of the World

Description

A tense drama about a team of scientists at a South Pole research station, who, in their frantic efforts to avoid an environmental disaster they have created, are forced to destroy the machinery they have come to rely upon for their own survival. When evacuation finally begins, they face an uncertain future on a distant planet.

J.J. Porter and Bob McDonald of the Strategic Sea Command are assigned to the South Polar Region to uncover the planet’s last source of energy which is under an ice sheet miles thick. But the project is sabotaged by an enemy who dislodges the ice sheet, freezing the whole globe. Porter and McDonald, who board a spaceship filled with the world’s leading citizens, think they are saved, until some strange goings-on suggest that they are flying toward their own disintegration.

A gripping story follows scientists working at a research base in Antarctica who must wreck the equipment keeping them alive to stop an environmental catastrophe they caused. As they prepare to leave for a faraway world, nobody knows what awaits them there.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
