Brothers of the Angle

Description

In a quaint American town, the story unfolds in Mrs. Budweiser's opulent parlor. The air is thick with the scent of perfumed candles, adding to the aura of her spiritual pursuits. Mrs. Budweiser, the wealthy widow, is gentle and hopeful, longing to connect with her deceased husband, Charles. Sally Magruder, posing as a hearing aid saleswoman, and her scheming partner, Billy Falcon, plan to exploit the widow's vulnerability through their con. The world is serene, untouched by deceit—yet.

Henrietta Augusta Buttweiser, rich and widowed, takes pity on “down-trodden” door-to-door salesperson Sally Magruder and invites her in. Mrs. Buttweiser believes her dead husband, Charles, is desperately trying to reach her and tells Sally so. She also describes in detail her late husband’s habits, information that Sally takes to Billy Falcon, her con-man boyfriend. Billy wants to use it when he tries to convince Mrs. Buttweiser that he has been in contact with Charles and can serve as a conduit between them—for a price, or course.

In a charming small town, Mrs. Budweiser sits in her fancy living room filled with sweet-smelling candles that match her interest in talking to spirits. This rich widow misses her dead husband Charles and hopes to reach him somehow. Sally Magruder pretends to sell hearing aids while her partner Billy Falcon helps plan their trick to steal money from the lonely woman. Everything seems peaceful in this quiet place, but trouble is coming.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
