Description

The clash between colonial authority and native customs in India is vividly dramatized in the story of Edward Dumoise, a civil surgeon who marries an ostracized native girl, Lala, and struggles to reconcile his love for her with his professional duties. Dumoise's determination to practice modern medicine in the face of superstition leads to his death from cholera.

A British doctor named Edward Dumoise works in colonial India and falls in love with a local woman named Lala who has been cast out by her people. He marries her but fights to balance his feelings for his wife with his job as a government medical officer. When Dumoise tries to bring modern medical practices to people who believe in old superstitions, he ends up dying from cholera.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
