Child of Fate
Description
On her dad's quiet estate, a girl who spends time alone creates a make-believe world that gets turned upside down when a new teacher arrives. As the teacher and girl become friends, the teacher must help the girl deal with the reality of her pretend companion and get ready for a regular life.
In the idyllic isolation of her father's estate, a lonely child’s imaginative world is threatened by the arrival of a governess. As the two women grow closer, the governess must help the child face the truth about her imaginary friend and prepare for a more normal life.
Halcyon Trent spent her childhood alone, living in a secluded house, ignored by her ill mother and busy father, so she created an “imaginary” friend, Gerald. As teenagers, Halcyon and Gerald are still constant companions, until Violet Tarcher, a governess, comes to teach Halcyon. The two women become close friends. When Miss Tarcher is injured climbing a tree, Halcyon blames Gerald’s jealousy and wonders if she should set him free before he does further harm to her new friend.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
