Description
Rasputin, the notorious Russian monk in the court of Nicholas II, defied the death plots of his many enemies. Rasputin, a monk of peasant ancestry with hypnotic powers that helped stem the dread bleeding disease from which the young heir to the throne of Nicholas II and Alexandrea suffered, rouses the wrath of a doctor, the head of the secret police and the richest man in Russia because of his debauchery and alleged dealings with the German enemy. All three plot to kill him, but for reasons they don't understand, Rasputin won't die easily.
A Russian peasant monk named Rasputin uses mysterious powers to help the royal family's sick son, but his wild behavior and suspected ties to Germany's enemies anger powerful men who want him dead - though killing him proves much harder than they expected.
The episode centers on the historical figure Rasputin, a monk in the court of Tsar Nicholas II. Despite possessing hypnotic powers that helped stem the dread bleeding disease affecting the young heir, Rasputin becomes a target for powerful enemies including a physician, the secret police chief, and Russia's wealthiest man, all disturbed by his behavior and alleged German connections. Though three separate conspirators devise murder plots against him, they find their efforts mysteriously thwarted, as Rasputin proves surprisingly difficult to eliminate.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
