Dead Men Do Tell Tales

Description

When mechanic Sam Small dies unexpectedly, it reveals a complicated mess of shame and making things right. Sam had been trying to face a man running for governor who knew about a terrible secret they both shared from years ago. Their meeting ends badly, but the truth finally comes out, and the town starts to heal from its ugly history.

The sudden death of a town mechanic, Sam Small, shows a tangled web of guilt and redemption. Sam had been trying to confront a gubernatorial candidate with whom he shared a dark secret from their past. The confrontation ends in tragedy, but the truth is finally shown, and the town begins to recover from its sordid past.

A man wearing a money belt containing nearly $9,000 is murdered in his room at a rundown boarding house by two shots fired from a short-barreled .38 revolver. One piece of evidence found at the scene of the crime is an explosive linen handkerchief monogrammed with the initials H-R-M. From the manufacturer the police learn, much to their consternation, that the handkerchief belongs to one of their own: their boss, the commander.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
