Devil’s Gold

Description

A rugged seaman stands trial for the murder of his shipmate. The only evidence is a peculiar gold coin he acquired in Libya. The coin's strange properties baffle the court and bring a mysterious stranger to the trial. Rusty is freed when the coin's magic allows a mistrial, but he is still haunted by its enigma and the question of his destiny.

A tough sailor faces court for killing his crewmate. The only proof is a weird gold coin he got in Libya. The coin's odd powers confuse the judges and draw a strange man to the trial. Rusty goes free when the coin's magic causes the trial to fail, but the mystery of the coin and his fate still troubles him.

While souvenir shopping, Rusty West visits an antique shop known as The Devil’s Boutique because it mysteriously appears, vanishes and then reappears in another location. Inside, he scares off a thief and, in gratitude, the shopkeeper gives Rusty a gold coin which, he says, can never belong to anyone else. This is confirmed when Rusty loses the coin in a gamble to a man who is later killed, and the coin turns up again in Rusty’s possession, implicating him in a murder.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
