Dickens of Scotland Yard

Description

This series, starring John Le Mesurier as Dickens and Robert Beatty as Inspector Field, dramatizes the partnership of the author and his friend at Scotland Yard. The stories are based on Dickens' own cases and on his fascinating study of crime in Victorian London.

Inspector Field beefs up the fledging Scotland Yard force by enlisting the famous writer to help solve the mystery of “Tally-Ho” Thompson, a con man whose most recent caper included stealing horses. Dickens is delighted to help, but will his great insight into fictional characters translate into real-life deduction as well?

This show features John Le Mesurier playing Dickens and Robert Beatty playing Inspector Field, and tells the story of how the famous writer worked together with his police friend. The episodes come from real cases that Dickens helped solve and from his interesting research into crimes happening in London during Queen Victoria's time.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
