Dreams

Description

In a tense, dimly-lit apartment, Gloria's vivid dreams, once a boon to her husband's gambling, turn ominous as she begins to lose faith in herself and in him. The dreams reach a crisis with the news of her mother's death, forcing Ben to confront his own dependency on chance and to seek a more stable and responsible life.

In a dark, cramped apartment, Gloria's powerful dreams used to help her husband Ben win at gambling, but now they become frightening as she starts to doubt herself and him. When Gloria learns her mother has died, her dreams reach a breaking point, and Ben must face how much he depends on luck and find a better, more grown-up way to live.

Ben Bailey, a bass guitarist, married Gloria over the objection of her parents, who wanted a son-in-law with a steady income. But Ben is able to provide Gloria with all the modern comforts as long as he wins at roulette, which he does when Gloria’s dreams tell him which numbers to bet. But when she suffers a shock (a dream of her mother’s death) and becomes comatose, Ben’s source of income, which he needs to pay the doctor’s bills, suddenly dries up.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
