First Prize—Death
Description
John Desmond, a co-director of the Sociological Advistory Institute, is a leading sociologist, well admired by his colleagues. Yet, year after year, he is passed over while the Parkhurst Medal is awarded to other sociologists: first to his co-workers and then even to a former student. One day Desmond is approached by a Mr. Strickland, who promises him the next Parkhurst Medal if he falsifies his research and murders his superior. The price of fame? Death.
A distinguished sociologist, Dr. John Harrison Desmond, is tempted to seek fame by unethical means when he learns that an important award is within his grasp. But when he is forced to confront the issue of integrity and honor, he learns that true recognition lies within ethical choices and the support of those who really matter.
When respected sociology professor Dr. John Harrison Desmond discovers he has a chance to win a major award, he considers using dishonest methods to achieve fame. However, when he must face questions about doing what's right, he realizes that real success comes from making honest decisions and earning respect from the people who truly count.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
