Honest Mistake
Description
Eddie Pond and his wife Frances would be an ordinary suburban couple if it weren’t for one thing: Eddie is a killer for hire. But Eddie has been in the business too long, and even his employer thinks Eddie should retire. Nevertheless, Eddie agrees to silence a witness before he can testify. The intended victim should be very easy to find—he’s the only Roderick T. Hammersmith in the phone book. But is he really the only R.T. Hammersmith?
In the days before Christmas, assassin Eddie Pond struggles between his deadly job and his feelings for his wife Ann. When he gets ready to kill an important witness at a trial, he accidentally goes after the witness's accountant by mistake. The failed hit gets him caught and makes him choose to quit his criminal life.
During the week preceding Christmas, a hitman, Eddie Pond, is torn between his dangerous profession and his love for his wife, Ann. While preparing to kill a key witness in a trial, he mistakenly targets the witness's accountant instead. The bungled job leads to his capture and a decision to retire from crime.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
