John Croswell's peaceful life in a quiet town falls apart when he starts feeling like he's becoming someone else. His wife Louisa tries to calm him down, but he gets more and more upset by deadly dreams about a stranger he's never seen before. The story ends when John dies in an apple orchard, just like in his bad dreams.

John has been unfaithful to his wife, Louise, and life’s just desserts catch up to him when he discovers that the events of a recurring nightmare suddenly become true.

An idyllic small-town life is shattered when John Croswell begins to sense that he is no longer himself. Despite his wife Louisa's efforts to reassure him, he becomes increasingly disturbed by dreams of death and a man he has never met. The climax of the story is John's death in an orchard, mirroring his nightmares.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
