It’s Hell to Pay the Piper
Description
When Halloween gets close, a Scottish bagpipe player must face his fears as a dead lord's ghost comes after him because he owes money for renting a horse. Steenie gets help from his friend Hutchin, who tells him stories about the lord and the old castle out on the wild land.
As Halloween approaches, a Scottish piper's courage is tested by the ghost of a laird who haunts him for overdue rent on a mare. Steenie's friend Hutchin brings him comfort in a series of stories about the laird and the old castle on the moor.
Steen Steenson, a poor Scottish farmer, neglects to get a receipt for his rent payment from Sir Robert, his eccentric feudal landlord whose only companion is a devil-like monkey. When Sir Robert dies, his son John demands that Steen clear his debt by Halloween night. Not until the despondent Steen meets a witch who takes him on a journey to hell to collect the overdue receipt from Sir Robert, does he realize that there may be a real thief living in Redgauntlet Castle.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
