Must Hope Perish
Description
A senator who is running for president believes that the country's leading dissident is trying to get his point across through poetry despite never having been formally introduced.
A senator campaigning for president thinks the nation's top rebel is using poems to share his message, even though the two men have never actually met.
Senator Marvin Hale Prentiss is absolutely opposed to open trade relations with the Peoples Republic of Doriaj. One reason: a little book of poems smuggled out of the country calling for internal revolt. The first three lines of the book's first poem begin with the letters M, H and P—the senator's initials. Often the poet also writes, "Must hope perish," again words that begin with M, H and P. The senator feels he cannot ignore these desperate pleas for help.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
