Straight from the Horse’s Mouth

Description

Mistakenly thinking it is a race horse, a timid young man purchases a work horse at an auction. Little does he know that the pony hides an enormous secret that will change his life forever.

Hubert Purley is a sober, dependable bookkeeper for the Haskins Machine Screws, Nuts and Bolts Company, a business where, even if the books balance all the time, a guy may end up with a screw missing himself. Hubert buys Mervin, a 250-pound horse, and stables it in the garage of his duplex in Astoria, New York. Mervin, it turns out, talks to the other horses and soon tells an unbelieving Hubert how he can parlay a $2 bet into $1 million.

A shy guy buys what he thinks is a racing horse at an auction, but he actually gets a work horse instead. He has no idea the horse is hiding a huge secret that will turn his whole world upside down.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
