The 500 Carats
Description
A detective in Johannesburg, South Africa believes someone on the inside stole the world's biggest diamond and works day and night to catch the thief.
Mine operator, Sir Hugh, calls in Inspector Grace to find a 500-carat gem, which was somehow removed from its berth in an airtight room. Sir Hugh and his aides Marsden and Derwent were all in the room when the diamond was last seen, but Grace noticed more than their uneasiness when he interviews them there—a wind is carrying his cigar smoke toward an outer wall.
A local detective is convinced that the theft of the world's largest diamond is an inside job after it is stolen in Johannesburg, South Africa and tirelessly works to apprehend the criminal.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
