The Bargain

Description

Pete Marvin, racked up in the hospital for the seventh time in one year, finally coaxes a yes out of Gloria Granville to his marriage proposal—if he’ll leave racing. But there might be enough financial stake in his driving to want Gloria out of the way forever.

A racing team's mechanic owes a lot of money from gambling, so he starts breaking their race car on purpose to make them lose. When he causes a terrible crash that almost kills their best driver, the driver wants to quit racing. This starts a chain of bad things happening.

In order to pay off huge gambling debts, the mechanic of a racing team resorts to sabotaging their car to throw races. His actions cause a near-fatal car crash and which results in their ace driver's desire to retire. This sets off an unfortunate series of events.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
