The Book of Abaca
Description
The captain and the engineer of a doomed oil freighter become the victims of the contents of the ship's log when the freighter's owner decides he wants the book for himself.
The owner of a sinking oil tanker goes after the captain and engineer to get his hands on the ship's logbook, putting both men in deadly danger.
The captain of the Abaca dies of a heart attack when the ship splits apart and dumps 3 million gallons of oil off the New Jersey coast. Before he dies, the captain gives the Abaca’s chief engineer the ship’s log which itemizes the many violations purposely overlooked by the ship’s owners. But the engineer is murdered before he can present the book to the authorities. Without it, they have no case, and the owners know they can never be prosecuted unless it is found. Episode Guide
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
