The Bright Golden Murders

Description

A woman thinks her husband was killed because he found out about a metal discovery that could change world business, so she asks his friend and the local cops for help. What she doesn't know is that the scientist was secretly seeing a nightclub singer who belonged to a gangster - and the gangster killed him when he found out about their romance.

The death of Ellsworth Payne, an atomic scientist who parlayed his knowledge into a successful business, seemed to be an act of revenge for fooling around with the wrong guy’s girl. But his shocked widow Doris begins to think differently when his secretary starts talking about Ellsworth’s revolutionary discovery and a mysterious “they” who wanted the secret. Doris’ list of “plotters” soon grows to include everyone who denies this theory.

Believing that her husband was murdered after discovering a metallurgical secret that would shake the world market, she turns to his friend and the local police for help. Unknown to her, the scientist was actually having an affair with the cabaret singer girlfriend of a mobster- and was subsequently murdered when he discovered their liaison.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
