The Curse of Conscience

Description

A hustler and loser fall in with an elderly woman who tries to put him on the straight and narrow path. When he finds himself in a bind, he aims to take advantage of her -- with dire consequences.

No good Simon Berman, nearly penniless in Cleveland, meets an 85-year-old spinster at a church social. Cousin Anne, as she calls herself, takes him home, gets him a job and promises to make him her heir. But when an old buddy shows up, Simon agrees to join him in a bank heist. They fail and Si heads for New York. Soon in trouble with some loan sharks, he asks Cousin Anne for money. When she refuses, he shoots her and lands in jail, with her ghost a constant companion.

A con man and failure gets involved with an old lady who wants to help him live an honest life. When he gets into trouble, he plans to use her for his own gain -- leading to terrible results.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
