The Deadly Blind Man’s Bluff
Description
A construction worker goes blind in a bad accident. He stays strong in his body, but his mind gets darker and darker. His home is close enough to hear the building work he used to do, which makes him feel even worse. The cops tell the worker and his wife that a killer has broken out of prison and is nearby, and the two men are meant to meet.
Topdog, number one on the police list of criminals, robs and murders an elderly woman living on the top floor of a building into which riveter Dave Miller and his wife Fran have recently moved. Dave, blinded by an on-the-job accident, is despondent until—through circumstances beyond his control—he meets face-to-face with Topdog, who does not know that Dave’s agile mind is concocting a scheme that may end Topdog’s career.
In a terrible mishap, a riveter loses his eyesight. While he keeps up his physical strength, he slowly goes on a downward spiral emotionally. Besides that, his apartment is within earshot of his former construction site, making him feel much worse. The police warn the riveter and his wife about an escaped murder convict in their area, and a meeting between the two is preordained.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
