The Deadly Pearls
Description
A small Hawaiian island has but three inhabitants—a malicious retired colonel, an eccentric old woman and the beautiful girlfriend of a mobster. All are resentful of the intrusion of private investigator Keith Spencer, posing as a novelist, whose task is to find a string of pearls coated with radium that will bring death to the wearer. Spencer narrowly escapes death at the hands of all three, in each case a seeming accident, and determines he'll only find the owner of the pearls in a bridge game in which the stakes are very high indeed.
A tiny Hawaiian island is home to just three people—a mean former army colonel, a strange old lady, and a gangster's pretty girlfriend. They all hate that private detective Keith Spencer has come to their island, pretending to be a writer. His job is to track down a necklace of pearls covered with deadly radium that will kill whoever wears it. Spencer barely survives when all three residents try to kill him in ways that look like accidents. He figures out that the only way to find who owns the dangerous pearls is to play a card game where everyone risks everything.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
