The Deathly White Man

Description

A woman becomes a caretaker for a wealthy couple at their isolated castle, where she and their son discover the family's most terrible hidden truth.

Linda Barclay, 23 and in need of a job, is hired by wealthy Carther Rensevelt to nurse his invalid wife. Mrs. Rensevelt is confined to Broomwegen, a mansion perched on the rocks of a small island. She can hardly speak, thus can give no explanation of the deathly white man whose visits from the mansion’s turret in the dead of night make life for Linda a most frightening experience. Notes: Witches (young and old), ghosts, the Devil and grave robbers all show up in five consecutive broadcasts in observance of Halloween, which host E.G. Marshall says, “Evil spirits abound—ghouls and ghosts, pariahs and phenomena, witches and warlocks, vampires, werewolves, poltergeists and crawling things too awful to imagine—all the outcasts from the natural world, not only the supernatural and dead, but the half-dead, the haunting army of the lost between two worlds.” This was the first of the five episodes in memorance to Halloween.

A woman takes a job as caretaker to a rich woman and her husband in their remote castle. There, she and the son of the wealthy couple learn the family's darkest secret.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
