The Eye of the Idol
Description
A gambling addict loses all his money and his girlfriend when his luck turns sour. His guardian angel gives him a magical charm called the Eye of the Idol that helps him win every bet. But even though he keeps winning, the man feels empty inside because his victories don't mean anything anymore.
Jack Farnsworth has nothing but pawn tickets to show for his addiction to gambling. His declining fortunes break up his engagement. In desperation, Farnsworth’s faithful servant Dunnoo seeks out a witch doctor to turn his master’s fate around. She agrees, but not before warning Farnsworth of the consequences of never losing a bet.
After losing his wealth as well as his lover after suffering terribly bad luck, a compulsive gambler receives a secret charm from his guardian angel. With the Eye of the Idol, the man is graced with an impressive winning streak but is disturbed by the hollowness of his victories.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
