Description
Based on Edgar Allan Poe's classic horror story, a man inherits the old Usher mansion and slowly goes crazy because he thinks the house is alive and watching him. The terrifying nightmare ends when he accidentally buries his sister while she's still breathing, thinking she's dead.
Mannering arrives at his friend Usher's decrepit mansion, where Usher fears his home has become "a tomb for the living dead." Usher's sister Madeleine dreads premature burial. Following her death and entombment, mysterious scratching sounds emanate from her coffin within the mansion's hallways.
The evergreen horror tale by Edgar Allan Poe tells the story of a heir driven insane by the ancient house of Usher, which he believes to be sentient. The ultimate macabre phantasmagoria winds with him burying his cataleptic sister alive.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
