The Familiar Ghost
Description
When he begins to receive letters of a threatening sort, a retired ship captain about to be married becomes paranoid and believes he is being pursued by an invisible being.
James Barton, who served in His Majesty’s navy during the American Revolution, is readily accepted by beautiful Viola Montague, but she must wait for the return of her father, a retired general. In the meantime, Barton starts believing he is being followed, but only he can hear the footsteps of his pursuer who, the famous psychic detective Dr. Hesselius declares, is a “familiar,” someone who is holding Barton “in a supernatural tie.” Why he is being held so must be determined before the wedding ceremony can take place.
A former sea captain getting ready for his wedding starts getting scary letters in the mail, making him think an unseen creature is hunting him down.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
