The Gift

Rita Holland and Walter Powers carry out a killing they have planned for months. They head to Rita's place where she cranks up the stereo as loud as it will go, then Walter shoots her husband Dennis. They tell the cops that Dennis was murdered by a thief who broke in to steal his expensive coin collection. The police start a standard investigation, but it's so ordinary that Walter, who sees things that aren't there, begins thinking the cops know he did it.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
