The Guy De Maupassant Murders
Description
A judge and his assistant track a notorious serial killer who targets young women and leaves mysterious notes beside their bodies. The smart assistant tries to figure out the familiar writing style in the notes, but the judge stays distant from the case.
When eight bloody murders are committed, police lieutenant Altman receives notes from the killer claiming that nature has commanded him to kill because "the more she destroys, the more she renews herself." The note left behind with each new victim quotes the Bible, "Thou shalt not kill." Once a description of the killer is obtained, Altman consults Judge Wilmot, who theorizes that the killer has a dual personality like Jekyll and Hyde. So Altman suspects just about everyone except the judge who fits the description perfectly and owns a gun like the assassin's.
The sensational tale of a serial murderer is followed by a judge and his attendant. The killer seems to exclusively choose young women as his victims and leaves tantalizing notes next to their corpses. The erudite attendant tries to trace the style of writing that seems oddly familiar to her but the judge keeps aloof.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
