The Hanging Judge

Description

An English shopkeeper accuses his assistant of theft and gets him arrested. But the alleged thief is permitted to go free by the judge due to lack of evidence. The criminal sets down on a chilling revenge spree both upon his employer and the judge who acquitted him.

A shop owner who fired an employee for theft closes his business and prepares to emigrate to America. While awaiting departure in Plymouth, he faces theft charges based on circumstantial evidence. He dreads his trial judge—a notoriously harsh jurist known for sentencing numerous defendants to death before lunch. In that era, robbery carried a death penalty.

A store owner in England claims his worker stole from him and has the man arrested. The judge lets the accused thief go because there isn't enough proof. The angry man then goes after both his boss and the judge who set him free, seeking cold-blooded revenge.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
