The Headless Hessian
Description
Private Tom Caldwell, with Washington’s troops near Trenton, New Jersey, covers himself with a large overcoat each night as he sneaks across enemy lines for a tryst with his beloved Peggy, whose home is occupied by Hessian troops. Washington’s men think they are seeing a ghost, a headless Hessian, and are terrified. When Caldwell is finally captured, Washington decides to put his charade to good use and to distract the Hessians during an American attack on Trenton.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
