The Legend of Alexander, Part Four: The Oracle

Description

Seeking Apollo's blessing before invading Persia, Alexander is also driven to Delphi by grief at Cyrus's death; and as he begins to lose control, he first intimidates the priestess and then ruthlessly punishes the Thebans who mocked him, watching the destruction with chilling satisfaction.

Before attacking Persia, Alexander goes to Delphi to get Apollo's blessing, but he's also pushed there by sadness over Cyrus dying. As he starts losing his grip, he first scares the priestess, then brutally punishes the Thebans who made fun of him, watching their destruction with cold pleasure.

Alexander, now conqueror of the Mediterranean (as well as Athens), turns his sights east to Persia. But Persian king Darius commands a million troops, versus Alexander’s small, if highly trained, force of 10,000. The Macedonian king consults the Oracle at Delphi to determine his fate. What the Oracle decides could change forever the face of Europe.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
