The Man Who Could Work Miracles

Description

As 1899 comes to a close, in the Bowery section of lower Manhattan, George comes to the realization that he can alter events by just willing it to be so. Everything he wishes for comes true. But his power leads to hubris and he goes too far. Will he be able to reverse the course he has set for the world?

George McWhirter, while drinking beer in Mike Brannigan's New York City saloon, discovers that he has suddenly been blessed with the power to perform miracles. He starts slowly, causing a kerosene lamp to burn while upside down and changing water into champagne. However, his new-found powers get the best of him—and everybody else—when he orders the world to stop turning and finds himself and his wife floating in space.

At the end of 1899, in Manhattan's Bowery neighborhood, George discovers he can change what happens just by wanting it to happen. All his wishes come true. But this ability makes him too proud and he pushes things too far. Can he fix the path he has put the world on?

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
