The Mysterious Island
Description
Two Union soldiers and a newspaper reporter flee a prison camp in a hot air balloon and crash on a strange island where a hidden helper secretly takes care of them.
Captain Harding, a Union engineer often rough with his men, contains enough spirit bottled up to give his men hope. Gideon Spillett, a newspaperman, claims the pen is mightier than the sword. Pencroft, a sailor by trade with a nose for navigation, has spawned a young son named Neb. All four men are amazed when they find, on a seemingly deserted island, a chest of supplies and new tools.
After escaping a prison camp via hot air balloon, two union soldiers and a reporter land on a mysterious island where they have an unseen benefactor seeing to their needs.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
