The Oblong Box
Description
Will and Elvira Hopkins are on a ship from Charleston to New York when they meet Elvira's old college friend, Cornelius Wyatt, an artist traveling with a veiled bride and a coffin-sized box which he insists contains a rare painting.
Will and Elvira Hopkins wait expectantly for Cornelias Wyatt to come up a ship's gangplank with his beautiful new bride. But it's a plain, older woman and an oblong box that Wyatt brings on board. When Wyatt and his "wife" put their luggage in one cabin and take the box with them into an adjacent stateroom, their suspicions are aroused.
Will and Elvira Hopkins travel by ship from Charleston to New York, where they run into Elvira's former college friend Cornelius Wyatt, a painter who has a mysterious veiled wife and a coffin-shaped crate that he claims holds a valuable artwork.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
