The Phantom Stop
Description
Alvin Frieburger is taking a trip in an express subway and wants to get down at a stop that does not exist.
Alvin Frieburger rides a fast underground train and tries to get off at a station that isn't there.
Henpecked and ill, Alvin finds little satisfaction in his life, until he begins riding a new subway to work. The train hurtles past a stop, 35th and Neely, but Alvin determines to find a way to get off there, imagining his lovely first wife, Sarah, now dead, will meet him there as she did in their youth. When he realizes the price he will have to pay to get off, Alvin must decide between his present unhappiness and possible happiness in an unknown world.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
