The Prisoner of Zenda

Description

When a prince poisons his brother on coronation day, a look-alike cousin must pretend to be the king and complete the ceremony.

Rudolf Rassendyll arrives in Ruritania on the eve of the coronation of his cousin Rudolf. The king-to-be has an enemy in his brother, Duke Michael, who aspires to the throne. During festivities at Zenda Castle, the Duke drugs King Rudolf, and Rassendyll, who looks like the king, is persuaded to impersonate him and is crowned in his stead. The real king remains a prisoner in Zenda Castle, and many dramatic escapades, duels and intrigues are required to rescue him.

The coronation of a new king is disrupted when the king's brother drugs him. A distant relative who closely resembles the king steps in to take his place at the coronation.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
