Description

A Russian soldier tries to learn a rich countess's secret gambling method, but he kills her by mistake. Now the dead woman returns from the grave to get revenge on the man who ended her life.

Intent on the pursuit of a secret gambling technique from a wealthy countess, he accidentally kills her. Now she's back to seek vengeance on the Russian soldier that caused her untimely demise.

Lt. Alexy Petrovich Hermann, a German engineer in the czar's army, had never joined his comrades as they gambled until he learns that an elderly Countess Fedotovna holds the secret on how to win at faro. Extracting that secret from her becomes the lieutenant's only reason for living. When he finally manages to confront her, she dies from fright, but her ghost later reveals the secret to him. However, he soon learns what he has met is not a revengeful but a friendly ghost.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
