The Return of Anatole Chevenic

Description

Working all day at shoemaking and all night for his miserly, sadistic Uncle Anatole, Hans Chevenic manages to earn a meager living for himself and his wife. Hans puts up with Anatole in anticipation of being the sole heir to his considerable wealth, until Anatole reveals he is cutting Hans out of his will. Enraged, Hans kills the old man, but when the body disappears and his dead cousin reappears claiming to be the man Hans conjured up to cover his deed, his sanity ebbs.

Hans, a young man, asks his uncle Anatole to give him part of his inheritance now instead of waiting. Anatole says no and tells Hans he has hidden the money somewhere safe because he worries people might try to hurt him for it. Hans gets angry and storms off, then starts thinking about what would happen if his uncle died.

A young man named Hans tries to convince his uncle Anatole to give him a portion of his inheritance earlier. His uncle denies his request and mentions that he has hidden the fortune away as a precaution against attempts on his life. Hans leaves in a fume and starts fantasizing about his uncle's death.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
