The Ruby Lamp

Description

A university teacher invents a machine that can record people's thoughts like a movie. He tries to help his buddy whose wife is deeply sad after losing her babies. The woman wants to find out what happened to her twins who died before birth, and the machine gives her exactly what she's looking for.

The marriage of Paul and Edith Morrison is suffering from the strain of a secret Paul withholds from his wife “for her own good.” While visiting Professor Matthew Horner to avoid Edith’s constant efforts to learn the secret, Paul learns of a process that can photograph thoughts, using a ruby lamp and unexposed film. He agrees to experiment with it, and the resulting image changes his marriage forever.

When a college professor creates a device capable of capturing a person's thoughts on film, he uses it to help a friend whose wife suffers from severe melancholia over the death of her children. The woman desires to know what became of her stillborn twins and the experiment all too capably supplies her with the answer.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
