The Secret Of The Fifth Bell

Description

A man receives a mysterious collection of old Chinese bells as a present, and one of them rings by itself. Every time this bell chimes, someone specific either dies or gets lucky.

A husband is gifted with a strange set of antique Chinese bells, one of which peals without human intervention. Death or good fortune finds a chosen individual each time the bell tolls.

Norma Phillips gives her wealthy industrialist husband Frank a set of six Japanese bells on a silken cord. Frank is pleased to add the gift to his collection of valuable curios, until the fifth bell on the cord starts ringing every so often for no apparent reason. The mysterious ringing frightens Frank, even more so when the woman who sold it to Norma is found murdered in Franks study. He calls in the famed Dr. Van Dusen to solve the murder and to silence the bell.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
