The Solitary
Description
The story of an unlikely friendship between a prisoner and the security officer. The prisoner is hated and tortured by another guard regularly and the warden tries to find a way to resolve the conflict.
A man who is jailed for battering his disloyal girlfriend assaults a prison guard named Karl and is placed in solitary confinement. Once in an isolated pitch-black cell, the man alternates between nightmares and insomnia, sometimes doubting his own existence. Then Don, a sympathetic guard, tries to comfort him with fabricated good news. However, when Karl returns and accidentally shatters this pretense, the man assaults Karl again, insuring that his stay in solitary will be extended.
A convict and a prison guard become unexpected friends. Another guard constantly beats and mistreats the convict, so the warden looks for ways to stop the trouble.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
