The Thomas Jefferson Defense
Description
In order to exonerate him being indicted for murder, Thomas Jefferson must defend an Indian chief from the county sheriff and the narrow viewpoint of the prevailing time.
A jealous Carter McAllister murders Jeremy Morgan and falsely accuses Morgan's uncle, Chief Blue Cloud, of the crime. Thomas Jefferson, serving as a respected Virginia lawyer, defends the Shawnee chief by arguing all men are created equal and regardless of ethnic background are entitled to a fair trial.
To clear his name from murder charges, Thomas Jefferson has to protect an Indian chief from the local sheriff and the small-minded thinking of that era.
Certain that the beautiful Louisa is in love with half-breed Jeremy Morgan, Carter McAllister, enraged with jealousy, murders him and then accuses Morgan’s uncle, Chief Blue Cloud. The Shawnee chief hires his good friend, Thomas Jefferson, a highly respected Virginia lawyer, to defend him. Jefferson’s main argument to the jury is his credo that all men are created equal and regardless of ethnic background are entitled to a fair trial.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
