The Way to Dusty Death
Description
When Civil War captain Crane Webb kills Paul Carpenter, the war between the Webbs and the Carpenters flares up again. But Amanda Carpenter is determined to bury her brother's body, which still lies on Webb property, and she seeks the help of the captain's son, Harmon, whom she hopes to marry someday, ending the families' fighting. But Harmon's plea has no effect on his father, so the young couple proceed to move Paul's body at the risk of both their lives.
A strange story of hatred set in the back woods, where a baron would rather let a dead man's body get decomposed in the open, unattended by any ritual or funeral. When the deceased man's daughters fail to reason with him, the baron's son steps in to plead with him.
In the wilderness, a bitter tale unfolds when a wealthy landowner refuses to let a dead man have a proper burial, leaving the body to rot in the open. After the dead man's daughters cannot change his mind, the landowner's son tries to convince his father to do the right thing.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
