An unlikely thief steals a famous painting. The person who made off with the masterpiece has highly specific and long term plans for the art piece.

"The Woman in Red," a valuable portrait on loan from Holland, is stolen from a museum by an expert thief who is identified in a documentary film, shot just before the theft occurred. But when the police track him down, the thief is dead. Two others suspected of being involved in the robbery are also killed before the police can question them. That, however, doesn't faze a woman detective, Maria Rodriguez, who majored in art while in college.
