The Woman in the Green Dress

Description

An apparition of a lady in a green dress haunts a visitor in his friend's residence. Things get interesting when he finds her mentioned in a coat of arms in the architecture of a derelict, local church. Further enquiry with the old church sexton reveals a strange murder committed nearly eighty years back. Can he solve the mystery now?

Photographer Paul Maiden becomes fascinated with an old portrait of a beautiful young woman wearing a green dress. He learns that the portrait is of Melanie Brent, who was killed by a jealous suitor the day before she was to be married by Andrew Scott, now 90. The murderer, Scott claims, was acquitted, but later committed suicide. He also claims that Melanie still visits him often, which causes his younger relatives to consider him mentally unstable.

A ghost woman wearing a green dress scares a man staying at his friend's house. Things get exciting when he discovers her picture in the decorations of an old, abandoned church nearby. When he asks the elderly church caretaker about it, he learns about a weird killing that happened almost eighty years ago. Can he figure out what really happened?

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
