To Hang by the Neck
Description
Becky Pryor decides, after the end of the Civil War, to return to the C-Circle-C Ranch in Texas, just a year after she went there for what she thought was going to be Carrie Conway’s wedding, but turned out to be her friend’s funeral. Carrie’s invalid mother now complains to Becky that the truth is not known about her daughter’s death. A suspiciously quiet ranch hand, a Northerner, offers to help Becky find out why Carrie might have hanged herself—if indeed she did.

A year after the Civil War ends, Becky Pryor goes back to the C-Circle-C ranch in Texas. She had visited there before for what she believed would be Carrie Conway's wedding, but instead found herself at her friend's funeral. Now Carrie's sick mother tells Becky that nobody knows the real story behind her daughter's death by hanging. A mysterious ranch worker from the North, who doesn't talk much, says he will help Becky discover the truth about whether Carrie really killed herself or if something else happened.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
