Help Wanted

Description

Detective Lt. Arthur MacRae is told that unless he solves the murders of the five women it’s back on the street beat for all members of his department. MacRae learns that each of the women, all living alone and lonely, had charge accounts at a corner grocery store owned by a Mexican American named Diaz, and that each had a violent argument with Diaz over money before they were killed. He also learns two more facts: that Diaz is in the country illegally, and that his own Aunt Millie was in the store during each of the arguments.

Detective Arthur McCrae investigates murders of elderly women living alone in a troubled small town. His Aunt Millie helps him understand the victims, but McCrae discovers she is the killer who believes she is helping these women escape their sad lives. The shocking truth destroys everything McCrae thought he knew.

In a quiet town where the air hangs heavy with unease, Detective Lieutenant Arthur McCrae probes a series of murders that target lonely older women. His Aunt Millie provides insights into the victims' despair, but shows herself as the murderer, driven by a twisted sense of mercy. McCrae's logic is shattered by her confession.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
