Insomnia

Description

Anita Dwyer, left alone for the first time in many years when her husband moves out to be with a younger woman, begins to suffer extreme insomnia. Her morbid anxieties increase despite all sorts of cures suggested by her neighbor and son. She even buys a canary to keep her company, but it soon dies under very mysterious circumstances.

In the quiet of late night, a newly divorced woman, tormented by insomnia, struggles with her isolation and loneliness. Her only contacts are her son, who is about to become a father, and her neighbor, who provides a listening ear. A mysterious radio station adds to her mental turmoil until she confronts its sinister voice and begins to face her fears.

A woman who just got divorced can't sleep at night and feels very alone. She only talks to her son, who will soon have a baby, and her neighbor, who listens to her problems. A strange radio station makes her feel worse until she fights back against the scary voice and starts to deal with what frightens her.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
